Ebooks versus Real Books

Hmmmmm – I have been reading about ebook readers – the electonic type that is.

Did you know that Amazon claims it sold more Ebooks on Christmas Day than paper ones (or Real Books as I call them) !!!! Mind you, you can have an ebook instantly on Christmas Day, whereas you have to wait until the shops open on Boxing Day to get a Real One :)
OK – my thoughts are …………….those ebooks readers are very expensive!! Plus there are extras for them –covers and clip on lights and the like!

I have trouble finding my iPod and phone in my bag let alone an ebook reader. I would find a Real Book far more easily.

I also can’t see myself reading an ebook through one of these readers on the beach somehow. What about the sand and the lotion – not to mention if my glass of wine tips over onto it! Also, if others on the beach are reading via an ebook reader I couldn’t possibly know what they are reading eeeekkkk. I love walking along the beach on holiday and making comments (to myself and silently of course!) about the books people are reading – from the typical girly holiday read to the more serious stuff.

I can’t see myself using one – but then again I remember saying quite adamantly (many many years ago that is) that I would always use cassettes for my music and not a CD – how funny is that now! Maybe I need to use an ebook reader first and then make a judgement – but there is nothing quite like sitting with a book and looking forward to turning to the next page, and seeing how far you have got in the book and how many pages you have left! I love the feeling when I am close to the end of an exciting book – I read faster to get to the end quicker. Will I get this with an ebook reader? I think not :(

OK – that’s it from me for now.

Off to pack some stuff for my Easter break – including ………a couple of REAL books (or maybe more than a couple)

Let me have your thoughts on this.

Have you used a reader and what did you think?

Are you converted?

  1. i think that a real book is much better than an ebook cos you have to buy the ebook and then the books to go with, but for a real book it is free to borrow at the libary!

  2. Eileen says:

Yes – I completely agree Charlie. We used to go to the library regularly when we were little (!) but I admit I haven’t been to one in ages

  3. My book is available as either, both, whichever you prefer at http://www.oflandseaandsky.com hope you’ll take it on holiday and read it either way!
I’m recording it as an audio book to be released soon too!
    Love to you both

PS I’ve sold more paperbacks but only just started to promote the e-book and giving it as a bonus item at
