Starting your own website can be a hobby, a part-time job, or can actually earn you enough to live on. There are millions of websites out there – many of which have been launched and written by average people with no particular writing education. Here are the basics of how to launch a website and how to make money from it.
Step 1 – Figure Out your Niche
What will your website be about? Will you be advertising and promoting services that you provide, such as real estate, accounting, and so forth? Will you be selling hard goods, or even e-books that you have written? Or will you just have a site filled with information on a topic? Any one of these options can make money. Figure out what your niche is, and do some research on how competitive it will be with other websites with the same niche that are already out there.
Step 2 – Get Web-Hosting
You’ll need to determine what your domain name for your website will be. This will be in the form of “yourdomain.com”. There are also “.org”, “.ca”, and other endings you can choose from. Once you figure that out, and have ensured that no one else has already taken that domain name, you can set up web-hosting with any number of hosting companies. These can be fairly cheap – from $5 per month.
Step 3 – Set Up Your Content
A website needs content. The more the better. Your main job is to provide all the content that people will be looking for when they do a Google search on the internet. Using a website builder will be a great help if you are not familiar with HTML. These web builders will make building a web page more like writing a document in a word processor. Then you can simply upload these pages into your public folder through your web host.
Step 4 – Get Your Site Found
In order for your site to be found, it must contain lots of rich keywords that many people will be looking for. For example, if one of your pages is about training Labrador retrievers, then make sure that keyword is found sporadically throughout your page. Google will (hopefully) list your page in its rankings when someone types in that keyword.
Don’t be afraid to try something new, such as starting your own website. Many people with no web experience have started websites, even profitable ones. The key is to work hard, and not let stumbling blocks stop you.
