What is E-Learning?
Jan 29th
E-Learning is defined as an electronic learning. It is an improved and enhanced means of learning things in a better and convenient way. Earlier learning was subjected to older means such as reading books, sitting in a classroom or listening to teacher. But electronic learning provides all these things restricted to one click of the mouse at your own will. It entitles all the comfort you need to learn specific things at home or at any far flung place. It is a type of pedagogy that is totally user oriented. Internet plays a decisive role in providing you all the knowledge. It is the massive database of information and it is becoming more and more organized with help of technological advancements. Basically it acts as a “virtual learning environment”. Learners can determine how, what and when they can access information. You can have access to the information on the system using Internet at any time and at any place.
Tools of E-learning includes video tutorials, Pod casts, RSS feeds (termed as Rich Site Summary, it enables you to constantly receive the updated links to the websites chosen by you), blogs, email- newsletters and web conferencing. The future of learning resides in this form. E-Learning has its historic presence in way back 1840. At that time courses were provided through mail with the help of post offices but now it is the underground cables that are transmitting information at lightening speeds through internet and computers. This aspect of electronic learning helps various educational institutes to provide online degrees to the students.
The advantages of E-learning thrive upon its personalized approach, better quality and its cost – effectiveness. This form of method makes its users comfortable by allowing them to learn at their own pace. The goals and benefits of E-Learning include easy and increased access to information, convenience and flexibility to the learners. This method also improves the performance of individual and as well as of an organization. Organizations can learn how to increase their productivity and sales by referring to the tips given by experts. It also helps in organizing induction programs for the company. Evolution of internet will take this field of learning to new heights.

Using Excel Dynamic Named Ranges in Pivot Tables
Jan 28th
On of the best techniques to reference data in excel is to use named ranges. This can be extended if you want dynamic named ranges which adjust with new data.
Normally we hard code the source range for a chart or pivottable, especially if the full range is fixed for the year. However, if the final range is not fixed, then we have to manually update the range for the charts or pivottables every time the new data is added to the database or excel list. To update a pivottable manually, you need to select the table and then pivottable wizard, select back and then reselect the range. The source range also needs to be open.
You can use VBA code that opens up the source and updates the relevant pivottables automatically instead of having to do the above. If all the updating was left to the end, you could easily call all macros and update with one click!
However, in excel version 2003. A new data List feature provide dynamic lists. Another benefit is that there is no need to load the source file first as when using the OFFSET formula. The list range is usually given a named range. If you are using an older version then use the offset formula outlined below.
Once the formula or list range has been completed, go into the relevant pivottable and add the name of the dynamic range after the file name e.g. yourworkbook.xls’!yournamedrange
This means that when new data is added to the database, the named ranged should automatically expand to include the new data. When you refresh the pivot tables manually or by using the code, the pivot tables should now show the new data. This is a great way to start the development of an excel dashboard. Dynamic pivottables are a useful data model.
Go to: Insert>Name>Define and in the Names in workbook box type any one word name (I will use MyRange) the only part that will change is the formula we place in the Refers to box depending on if you are using offset or are using the list feature.
For the offset formula only use this:Expand Down as Many Rows as There are Numeric Entries. In the Refers to box type: =OFFSET($A$1,0,0,COUNT($A:$A),1)
If it is the data list you are using, then Go to: Insert>Name>Define and in the Names in workbook box type any one word name. Use this formula in the refers to box. Adjust the sheet name and range accordingly: =’yourworksheet’!$A$5:$G$339

Are You a Blogger?
Jan 27th
I’ve had several people ask me this – and the answer is – of course I am. The second part of my answer is usually what surprises them – SO ARE YOU! If you are reading this – I suspect you too are a blogger.
Have you ever updated your FaceBook status?
Have you ever posted a comment on MySpace?
Have you ever sent a tweet from your Twitter account?
If you have done any of the above – you are a blogger. A microblogger (is that one word?)
If you ever wanted to become a full-fledged blogger with your own website – heck – just find one of those status updates or comments – and elaborate on it. “…it sure is cold today. We got down to 15 last night.” A great status report on FaceBook – but it’s also a foundation and starting point for blog – how did that cold weather effect you? You could have a couple of paragraphs in just a few minutes.
So why blog?
If you own a small business – the answers are all over the place.
If you are a professional sales person – ditto.
If you are a Realtor – ditto.
But – I’m just an average person. I don’t own a business. I’m not one of those obnoxious sales freaks. I don’t run around with a sign on my car selling houses. Why the heck should I blog?
It’s fun.
It’s just a great hobby.
It keeps the blood flowing in the brain. Yep – you have to THINK when you blog.
It gives you a platform. Do you have a cause? Blog about it.
You can promote yourself – if you so desire. Future employment opportunities, career change, new business, the list is endless.
You leave your mark. Once you have taken the dirt nap – you have left a mark all across cyberspace (this does have it’s downside too – be careful what you write).
You might actually come up with something that makes you some money.
So – two things here -
1) You are a blogger already.
2) You don’t have to be a business person or sales fanatic to have a blog.
Happy Blogging!

Tips to Create the Best WordPress Blog
Jan 25th
KISS Training is holding a WordPress webinar on Wednesday 27th January at 7pm. You will learn a lot about WordPress and how to use it to create a stunning blog. However, if you can’t wait until then, see the article below for some top tips.
If you want to improve the results and functionality of your WordPress blog, I highly suggest you take a look at the various offerings of WordPress. Many people fail to realize how powerful a WordPress blog is because they only use the upfront tools that they see in front of them. Some also fail to look beyond those tools to investigate what other capabilities WordPress has.
Here are some things you need to think about when creating your posts:
When you create your posts, make sure that you’re including all of the tags for each post. Don’t make actual tags specifically with each post.
If you have an existing blog and are not seeing the traffic results you desire, I highly suggest you invest in the WordPress “All in One SEO Pack”. It’s a WordPress plugin. If you simply do a search for “SEO Pack WordPress,” it’ll pop up. Basically, it’s an all-in-one tool that optimizes your WordPress blog for the search engines. It is an extremely powerful tool that does a lot of cool stuff that you might want to think about doing. One of its capabilities is that it avoids typical duplicate content on your WordPress blog. There’s a lot more it can do, but if you take a look at the page on “All In One SEO Pack” for WordPress, you’ll be able to see the endless amount of offerings it has available to the average blogger.
Another important thing you should realize when creating your blog posts in WordPress or any other blog software or web page for that matter, is to never stuff a lot of keywords into your tags. The search engines see this as spamming. If you’ve placed 20 keywords in your tag, that’s far too much. I’d suggest reducing it to about a third of that amount. Too many keywords in your tag equate to getting bad results from the search engines. Too many keywords in your tags leads to poor traffic results which is a bad recipe for disaster.
But remember, SEO, keywords and tags are not the only things you can do to improve your blogs performance. As I always say, create articles and submit them to article directory websites and have those articles point back to your blog. This way you’ll not only be relying on organic traffic, but you’ll also be gaining very good traffic from high trafficked directory websites. Follow these tips and there is no reason why you should not begin to see some very good results with your blog.

Best Website Promotion Tactics and Reducing Bounce Rate to Your Blog
Jan 21st
Website promotion is the key to having impact on the internet. For anyone to make money online, bring traffic to your blog or website is not the only thing you need to do. As much as generating traffic to your blog is important, there is also need to make sure your bounce rate percentage is not so high.
To make a sale online, you need your target audience to spend at least 10 seconds on your website. To ensure this, you should design a webpage that will make your target market spend more time on your site thus make money online. As people browse the internet they come across many websites but ask yourself what you can do to make sure they do not leave your blog before scrolling through.
The first thing you need to do is make sure your blog appears organized and nice to look at. This will make your target market spend more time on your blog. In addition, make it easy for your target audience to navigate through your website. Include navigation links on your site, have them appearing on the top of your webpage or at the sides. It is also imperative to make sure that your target audiences do not have to click many navigation links to find what they are looking for.
When designing your website, make sure all your web pages have a similar design. If you go for different outlooks for each webpage, your target audience will get confused and leave your site thus end up increasing your bounce rate. In addition, it does not appear professional when you are inconsistent in your webpage designs.
Another important aspect of website promotion is using correct grammar. It is quite unprofessional when you are not careful in ensuring you have well constructed sentences in your blog. Use Microsoft word to write your articles thus make sure your grammar and spelling are correct.

MS Excel – Examples of ‘What If’ Scenarios
Jan 19th
Microsoft Excel is a powerful piece of software, and most people underestimate the complexity and sophistication in the types of calculations that it can handle. One fine example of Excel’s power is its ability to “predict the future” (sort of!) with what-if scenarios.
